Ingredients

For the Gnocchi

  • 1 package gnocchi Store-bought gnocchi are perfect for this recipe.

For the Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Plus an additional tablespoon for roasting option.
  • 1 onion, chopped For flavor base.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds aromatic flavors.
  • 1 cup heavy cream For a rich sauce; can substitute with half-and-half for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Use halal-certified or vegetarian alternative if needed.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust seasoning to preference.
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish) Adds a fresh touch.

Instructions

Cooking the Gnocchi

  • Cook the gnocchi according to the package instructions. Bring a large pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Drop gnocchi in, and when they float to the surface (usually 1–2 minutes), they’re done. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them directly into a colander to drain.
  • Optional roasting: Toss the gnocchi in 1 tablespoon olive oil and spread on a rimmed baking tray. Roast in a preheated 425°F (220°C) oven for 12–18 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and slightly crisp.

Preparing the Sauce

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.

Serving

  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley. Add a drizzle of olive oil or a few gratings of lemon zest before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using crushed red pepper flakes or fresh herbs during cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
